Nolan is an Austin, Texas-based reporter at the Dallas Morning News, where he covers state politics.
Before moving to Texas in June 2024, he spent the bulk of his career in Washington, D.C., working for a trio of outlets.
At the news startup The Messenger, which shut down in January 2024, Nolan largely covered Congress but also spent a brief stint reporting on legal affairs.
Prior to joining The Messenger in April 2023, he spent a year and a half as a congressional reporter in the Los Angeles Times' Washington bureau and nearly seven years at POLITICO, where he held multiple roles as a newsroom fellow, breaking news reporter, congressional reporter, White House reporter and presidential campaign reporter before reporting on Covid-19 and the intersection of race and policy.
His introduction to POLITICO came as an inaugural member of its annual journalism institute in the summer of 2014. He joined the company later that year shortly after graduating from Florida A&M University, where he majored in broadcast journalism.
Nolan is also a member of the National Association of Black Journalists and served as deputy chair of NABJ's Political Task Force from August 2019 to August 2024.
